Jungle Safari
Jeep, canter, and night stay experiences
Choosing Your Jim Corbett Safari Experience: Jeep vs. Canter vs. Forest Rest House Night Stay
Planning an authentic safari in India's oldest national park requires understanding the distinctions between available safari modes, administrative entry gates, and seasonal wildlife behavior. Jim Corbett National Park spans over 520 square kilometers of core reserve and 797 square kilometers of buffer territory across the Shivalik foothills of Uttarakhand. Each safari vehicle is restricted to government-regulated trail networks to ensure minimal habitat disruption while providing optimal tiger and elephant tracking opportunities.

Safari Shift Timings & Seasonal Gate Schedules
Corbett Tiger Reserve enforces two mandatory daily operational shifts. Timings adjust according to daylight hours in the Himalayan foothills. Visitors must present permits at gate barriers 30 minutes prior to departure:
Winter Schedule (October to March)
- Morning Shift: 06:00 AM to 09:30 AM (Entry gate opens at 05:45 AM). Chilly mornings require thermal jackets, wool caps, and gloves.
- Evening Shift: 01:30 PM to 05:00 PM (Entry gate opens at 01:15 PM). Animals congregate near sunny riverbeds and clearing edges.
Summer Schedule (April to June)
- Morning Shift: 05:30 AM to 09:00 AM (Entry gate opens at 05:15 AM). Prime window for predator mobility before midday heat peaks.
- Evening Shift: 03:00 PM to 06:30 PM (Entry gate opens at 02:45 PM). Waterhole sightings increase as heat subsides.
Monsoon Notice: Dhikala, Bijrani, and Durga Devi zones close from July to mid-October annually due to unpaved dirt track washout. Jhirna, Dhela, and Sitabani buffer zones remain operational throughout the year, subject to real-time weather clearance.
